   I began working as a consultant for a few local high schools in northern California some years back.  Since then I have come to realize how much some of our football coaches are waiting for a place where they can get some ideas.  Some of these coaches have too much pride to admit it however.  I usually only work with the teams that are below .500.  Then there are the minority of coaches that are willing to try new things but don't have access to the knowledge.  Even if they receive the information they need, they don't get instructions on how to practice their new scheme or when to use it.  If they Do get another scheme, they tend to use it entirely too much.  We all know how counter productive predictability is.

   I began my college career at a JC in Northern California(1990).  I then went on to an NAIA school in Winfield Kansas(1992).  After my brief stay in Kansas, I decided to try my luck at the pro level (1993-94).  Although I did not make it as a professional player, I was able to get some concepts which I will share with you.  Since then, I began my career as a high school coach (freshman).    As I was in my first year coaching, I worked under a coach that had recently been promoted from Pop Warner.  He was one of the most predictable coaches I've ever seen.  For example, he always ran to the strong side regardless how the defense lined up. 

 
 One game I told him to run a screen because the opponent was blitzing us every down.  He immediately turned the idea down.  A couple of weeks later, he came to practice with a new play (as he had done several times before).  When he began chalk talk, I noticed that it was the same screen I had drawn up for him earlier in the year.  Anyway, he used the screen against our next opponent and it went for big yardage.  After that game he came up to ME and stated "I'm a genius aren't I?  He didn't give me any credit for giving him an idea that he probably wouldn't have thought of on his own.  Nevertheless, I began my career as a football consultant.  I found it very difficult (still do) to get coaches to believe in what I'm teaching them. 

 
 Now that I have been working as a consultant for the past 6 years, I decided to come up with this site.  I wanted to create a place where coaches can communicate with me without having to actually meet face to face.  A coach never likes to tell where he is getting his concepts.  Online consultation is the thing of the future anyway.  I figured with all this technology there is no reason why I couldn't do all the communicating via internet.

Why you lose: Site Owner

 

   The answer to this question is simple.  Most of the coaches I have talked to are simply too stubborn to make changes.  They are stuck in their ways.  I once talked to a coach that hadn't won a game in 4 years.  I told him that I was willing to install a few new plays in his offense for FREE.  This was really a favor for someone else on his staff.  He then told me that he didn't like the passing game because his receivers keep dropping the ball.  I then asked him how often he practiced the passing game and he replied, "Not much cause they don't catch it."  No wonder why he loses consistently.  His unwillingness to try something new is costing him some wins. 

  
I'm not saying that he should start passing on every down, but simply throw in a few wrinkles to loosen the defense up.  As I talked to more coaches over the years, I began to realize that he represents how a lot of our coaches think today.  I know that there are coaches that are successful using the same plays game after game and year after year.  The team who is not so successful needs to add a few wrinkles so he can get back to what he wants to do.  They also compound the problem by being predictable. 

 
 I would rather work with a coach who is losing because he passes too much.  In my experience, coaches that pass the ball tend to be more open minded whereas coaches that want to run the ball are just the opposite.  The former coach is more willing to try new things.  These are the coaches that will benefit from this site.  We'll let the stubborn, predictable coach continue losing.

 

  

 

 

 

Offense/ ISO System:  Site Owner

   The Iso System is an offense designed to create mismatches with various formations, motion, and shifting.   I created this offense with a combination of a few different offenses.  During my playing days in college (1992), I first began to keep a log of some of the concepts my coaches would teach us.  I new then that I wanted to coach football some day.  In 1994, I had a brief stint in the NFL.  I learned many concepts about how to create mismatches at the pro level.  I didn't realize that there was so much scheming that goes into  play calling.

  Since then I have coached a few high school teams in Northern California.  Over the last ten years I have had lots of input from coaches and players on the many different wrinkles to be added to my offense.  The Iso System is somewhere between 60-70% passing.  We will get into why the passing game is so crucial later.  Most coaches I have talked to over the years are simply too stubborn to abandon their rushing attack especially if they are winning.  I'm not here to get coaches to leave their current game plans.  I just want to get you to see that if you add a few wrinkles it can be a huge advantage to you late in games.
 
 For example, I like to bring at least five new wrinkles to every game.  These plays will have a certain audible for emergency situations.  Each wrinkle will be in every formation.  The qb has the freedom to utilize any of the audibles if he thinks we have a chance.  All of my wrinkles are set up to go for the home run.  Some sort of play action or a trick play to give the defense something to worry about.  


Defense/ Multiple Pressure System:

   I like to employ a heavy pressure defensive attack.  I believe that the opposing Qb should only have time for one read most of the time.  Here I will assist you in developing a pressure scheme that will keep the opponent guessing.  I would also like to add a few zone schemes to use on third and long situations.

   The base personnel you use is up to you.  Whether you like the 4-3, 3-4, 46, or whatever.  The idea is to get the concepts.  I like to use lots of zone coverage to force the qb to throw through the defenders. 

 

 

 

 

 

   After talking to many high coaches around the US, I have found that most coaches are stuck in their ways.  I only work with high school coaches.  There are a few coaches that are willing to make changes and really want to win.  Listen, if your losing with your current scheme, it's time to change it up.  I want to reach the coaches that are consistently losing year after year.  I want these coaches to have a place where they can get all the information they need to help them compete with the "big boys" in their conference.  Here you will learn how to set up your practice schedule, game plan for each opponent, utilize your play call sheet, how to set your opponent and much more.  Whether it's offense or defense.

  This is a spread pro style offense.  We use lots of 4 and 5 wide sets.  There are some schemes that allow us to use our normal personnel as we line up in the 5 wide look.  Some of the defensive schemes will allow us to use our base personnel  versus a spread formation.  Remember, this is all done for a specific reason.  The coaches that sign up for the monthly newsletter will be able to contact me personally for any information they might need.  Whatever the question is, I either have the answer or know someone that does.
